SriLankan Cricket Team attacked in Pakistan

Several members of the Sri Lankan cricket team have been injured after gunmen fired on a convoy carrying cricketers in Pakistani city of Lahore.
The convoy was carrying Pakistani and Sri Lankan cricketers to a ground, which is hosting a Test match between the two sides.
Reports quoting Sri Lankan authorities say at least two Sri Lankan players were seriously injured in the incident.
Unconfirmed reports say some policemen had been killed by the shooting.
The incident happened on the road from the teams' hotel to the Gadaffi stadium, where a Test match is being held.
"It appears that our team bus was targeted on the way to the match. It appears that four of our cricketers have been injured and taken to the hospital," a Sri Lankan cricket official told an Indian TV channel from Colombo.

'Slumdog Millionaire' makes way to oscar

Beating out 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' 'Frost/Nixon,' 'Milk' and 'The Reader' for Best Picture, 'Slumdog' was also awarded Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Original Song, Original Score, Sound Editing, Film Editing and Best Director.
Upon receiving his Oscar, director Danny Boyle jumped up and down "in the spirit of Tigger" for his children, a promise he made to them years ago, and singled out the people of Mumbai, saying, "all of you who helped us make the film, and all of those who didn't, you dwarf this guy (Oscar)." Winning the top honor of the night and surrounded by his overjoyed cast, producer Christian Colson said, "Together we've been on an extraordinary journey. …What we had was a script that inspired mad love for everyone who read it."

Google Earth goes into oceans

First up, there's been great anticipation about a rumored 'Google Ocean'. Well, Google has met the anticipation of new ocean data - but, they're not releasing a separate product. It's all in Google Earth 5. First, we now have 3D bathymetry. Those new blue ocean floor magery is not just a 2D relief map - they are now 3D terrain. Move your mouse over the ocean and you'll see below sea level elevations (negative numbers). But, the real surprise is when you first start flying towards the ocean and tilt your view. You now see an ocean surface! And, if your graphics card is new enough, you see wave motion on the surface.
The real pleasure comes when you fly under sea surface. You can both see the 3D bathymetry and see the surface above you for a real submarine-like experience!
And, there is a huge amount of new ocean related layers. Under the Layer pane in the lower left you'll see a new "Ocean" layer folder. The folder contains a number of interesting new layers including material from National Geographic, Cousteau Society, BBC, NOAA, and more. There are locations of shipwrecks, tracks for ocean expeditions, GPS tracks of sea animals, and lots of information about the ocean environment. This was significant enough that Al Gore came to make the announcement. More on all of this in future posts. Especially given my interests in the ocean.
